How we review provider listings

Gentle Crossings is an independent directory, not an aftercare provider, licensing authority, or endorsement service. We publish a profile only when the record has a current business identity, a dated review, and traceable public evidence of a relevant pet-aftercare service.

Publication standard

  • Current identity: the business appears to be operating under the name and location shown.
  • Direct service evidence: a first-party site or other public source explicitly describes pet cremation, aquamation, cemetery, burial, memorial, hospice, euthanasia, or related aftercare.
  • Usable location: the listing has a city and state so families can understand its service area.
  • Traceable review: the published record retains a review date and a link to the public evidence used.

Records that are closed, ambiguous, mismatched, duplicated, or missing direct service evidence remain in the internal review set but are excluded from search-engine sitemaps and public recommendation flows.

What “checked” means

“Checked” means we found current public evidence for the provider identity and a specific pet-aftercare service. It does not mean we inspected the facility, verified a professional license, tested service quality, confirmed current capacity, or guaranteed prices or hours.

Families should confirm availability, transportation, timing, identification procedures, return-of-remains policies, itemized pricing, and any after-hours charge directly with the provider.

Sources and updates

We prioritize first-party provider websites and use public business profiles and government or industry sources when they clarify identity, location, or service details. Automated tools assist with normalization, duplicate detection, and consistency checks. A source can change after our review, so each profile shows its evidence review date when available.

Ratings and review counts, when displayed, are public snapshot data and can change. Gentle Crossings does not republish third-party review text and does not put third-party ratings into aggregate-rating structured data.

Directory ordering

Within a location, the default order uses a public rating when available, then public review count, then business name. This is a consistent sorting rule, not a quality judgment or endorsement. Claimed status and evidence-review status are displayed separately.

Corrections and provider claims

Providers can submit corrections or request ownership review. A submission does not automatically change a profile, establish control, replace the directory's evidence review, or create an endorsement.
